Your First Visit
At your first visit to Cedar Valley Orthodontics, Dr. Holahan will perform a comprehensive oral examination focusing on any specific concerns that you and/or your family dentist may have. Following this comprehensive examination, if treatment is determined to be needed, diagnostic records may be obtained to determine the best treatment options. The diagnostic records typically will include x-rays, digital photographs, and plaster models of the patient's teeth. These records may be obtained at your initial visit or at a subsequent visit depending on how you, the patient, and Dr. Holahan determine treatment should progress. Each treatment plan is individualized per patient, and we feel
our patients and parents should play an interactive role in determining which treatment option is best for you.
Consultation
After Dr. Holahan has evaluated your diagnostic records, we will discuss your treatment options with you in detail, including the cost of your particular case and payment options.

Regular Appointments
The appointment to have your orthodontic appliances (braces, etc.) placed generally takes about one to two hours. Following that appointment, you will see us at regular 4 to 6 week intervals for routine adjustment appointments, each which last about 20-30 minutes. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and we ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. We understand emergencies do come up, but if you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Failing to show up for appointments or canceling appointments can significantly increase the amount of time you need to be in braces.
Cost
The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's orthodontic problem. We will determine each patient's fee following our comprehensive examination and review of the obtained diagnostic records (x-ray, photographs, and plaster models). We will discuss all fees and payment options at the Consultation appointment before any treatment is started. This way our patients and their parents know all of the orthodontic fees up front before starting treatment.
Fees
In an effort to keep orthodontics fees reasonable while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:
- If full payment with cash or check is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer a fee discount. (If you have insurance, we will offer a discount for payment of your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance.)
- To fit your individual needs, financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months.
- In cases of serious delinquency, treatment will be discontinued, although we will make every effort to accommodate patients with temporary difficulties
Insurance
If you have insurance, we will help you to determine the coverage you have available. We ask that you assign your insurance benefit to us. The balance will be arranged for you to pay (see above). Professional care is provided to you, our patient, and not to an insurance company. Thus, the insurance company is responsible to the patient, and the patient is responsible to the doctor. We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf.
